Hello all. I'm trying to work out the vin number and commission number meaning on my car. Looking online I can only find the meaning and the breakdown of the numbers for the Spitfire.
Has anyone got one or have knowledge of the 2000 commission and vin numbers. Thanks
Joe
Commission, Vin number
Re: Commission, Vin number
I think you said previously was a pfl 1973 2000 mk2?
In that case the VIN no. should start with ME and end with DL. If it is an auto it will be followed by BW, and if it has PAS, BW will be followed by a letter P. If it has overdrive from new, then the DL will be followed by an 'O'. On later cars the BW was changed to an A. If PAS was standard (as in an 'S'), there is no reference to P in the chassis no.
Similarly with the engine no - it will start with ME and end with HE. If an auto it will have BW stamped after the HE in the block. There was no reference to PAS or overdrive in the stamped in engine no.
This is assuming you car has the original engine in of course...!
Establishing any info about body numbers is near impossible.....
Hope that helps.
