Car inspection

#1 Post by peewee21 » Mon Sep 14, 2015 2:46 pm

Hi,

Is there anyone who could inspect a car in Coventry for me, I am not sure about bodywork and would appreciate an impartial view. I may be able to meet you there or on-route.

If i do purchase i would then need some help bringing it back to peterborough, not asking much am i  :D

I am in stratford so can look with you if you like? Also have a trailer that may assist with getting a vehicle home. Do you have means to tow it, my 5 series is now showing 288k, so trying o give the old girl a rest!

I know the car that needs inspecting, as I used to own it. I also know the vendor, so I would prefer to stay out of this..... for obvious reasons.

However, if needed, and we can work out the timings, my E Class Estate only has 90k on the clock and would tow David's trailer easily........................

Ah, I wondered if it might be that one! Looks like some serious metalwork needed! Or certainly in the front footwell / sill area!

I am not as familiar with Mk1's so maybe there is a more suitable expert locally? The trailer is available though...

Body wise, pretty much same issues as MK2, so you will know what to look for?

Ian

Are you thinking of putting the engine in the estate or restoring the car?......

Just put this in your mind, if it wants sills you can work on a grand plus per side.

I know the seller ( honest guy) but not the car...............

On a plus side it be nice to save another MK1 PI :D

Currently, I neither have the money, time nor enthusiasm at present.

FYI Dad just had passenger side sill, (inner, strengthener & outer) replaced on his mk11, £1500 and that is left with seam welds showing and primed.... for MOT purposes

I.E. not dressed, smoothed or painted - been quoted upto another £1100 to have it finished

Lee, Estate staying as is for now, I am looking to put together a retro street car and like the drive train spec on this one, assuming it is as was so to speak.

had a quick quote for the metal work and paint starting from £8k+ upwards. maybe a re-shell or look elsewhere and spend the money on paint and a custom straight 6 engine (Did i say re-shell publicly  )
