Re: Steel wheel shot blasting
Powder coat is much harder wearing, and will look better.
I had the steel wheels for Sam's Moggy Minor shot blasted and powder coated white about 8 years ago... they still look perfect today (granted, it really doesn't get used much at all!)
I have extensively used shot blast and powder coating on the restoration of my estate. All the suspension components have been done. Very hard wearing and will last much longer than paint.
Cost, should be looking around £30 - £40 per wheel, depending on what colour.
Don't know where you are but I use these guys, always done a fantastic job for me.

Re: Steel wheel shot blasting
I had the 5 standard wheels on cecil, our mk1,blasted and powder coated last year, and i am very happy with the results.I took the advice of the lady who did the job,and went for the slightly off white colour favoured by morris minor owners, and it looks about right.the biggest problem now will be finding 175 x 13 tyres, but that is in the future.i also took the precaution of having the beading sealed on tyres when they were fitted, probably not needed but when you get to advancing years, caution often rules. But very good finish.

Re: Steel wheel shot blasting
SAFETY ISSUE POWDER COATED WHEELS
Having had my Spitfire wheels powder coated, they look fantastic!!
But I have had quite a few wheel nuts working loose, I could not understand it. I thought I was loosing the plot!! Never had it before
I was watching a old 'wheeler dealers' Edd China said 'to remove the powder coating around the wheel nut holes or your wheels will fall off!'
I Googled it and it seems there is not enough friction on power coating to hold the wheel nut on!
So beware!!
Hope this helps someone

Re: Steel wheel shot blasting
Hi Paul.
Thanks for the tip,had a loose nut moment on the final day of last years National on Cecil, whose wheels I had powdercoated as stated on the forum.Had not realised that there could be a problem, thought I had failed to tighten properly on that wheel.
Will now check mine again, and remove coating in nut areas.
Removing standard hubcaps can be a bind,so there is a tendency to ignore, but not now.
