Speedometer cable to an Automatic Transmission

#1 Post by BP2500Estate » Mon May 02, 2016 6:38 pm

I am a new owner of a 1973 2500PI Estate and working on my getting my Speedometer to work and the car come without a speedometer cable. Does the Borg Wanner model 35 Automatic transmission use a right angle drive to connect the transmission to the speedometer cable? If so, does anybody know where I can buy this right angle drive? Thanks

I can't think of a BW35 application that doesn't use an angle drive, unless the cable has a flanged end (like the Stag does) rather than a threaded one. The link above is for a Rover one, with the two thread sizes the same, Triumph have a smaller thread to the cable, so a specialist Triumph supplier would be better than a Rover one.
Currently over 35 years worth of fixing 35 boxes.
Hoping to reach 65 years worth of fixing 65 boxes.

I couldn't agree more, but unfortunately Chris Witor's site says out of stock, and no-one else seems to mention them. Didn't realise they were different for man o/d and auto, never mind different sizes for Rover et al.
Not to worry someone on here will have one lurking in their spares department, I'm sure!

the angle drive was used on many different car marqures it was made by smiths and used all over the place
one thing thats left out , is the must be a washer between the gbox and the drive to make some endfloat
rimmers will not offer warranty if this is not fitted
cant find it but this was subject on a BL technical note.
any simple washer 7/16" will work
even a search for angle drive in places like rimmers will show a whole plethera of models this drive was fitted to and a note about the darned washer

these units have a bad reputation to failing ...but did they have the washer !!!!!
costs pennies saves pounds
