Can't beat that, but I have owned my Royal Blue Mk1 for over 34 years. Saw it advertised at the side of the road in 1984 for £325, and as I had never owned a Mk1, I bought it. It hadn't been welded then, and hasn't been since. Although a little shabby, it's still one of my favourite Triumphs!

Can't beat that either with one car, but I have always owned at least one Triumph 2000/2500 since 1976, my first being a mk1 2000, then a selection of PI's and 2000's, then my current 2500 was bought in 1993, then the blue 2000 came along in 2006. It doesn't seem twelve years since I bought that one!

Surely it will state the date your father notified the authorities of a change of ownership on the V5?
Having said that, if it was 42 years ago as you say, from memory this was around the time when the DVLC (as it was then) was transferring vehicle records from Local Taxation Offices, as I believe they had previously only dealt with car tax records and my recollection is there were a good number of vehicle records lost or incorrectly recorded with the new DVLC with the transition of records from the Local Taxation Offices, so maybe the record may not be accurate as it could be.
With a bit of luck he may have been able to retain the original green folding log book (as it was actually called then) which should be accurate (can't beat handwritten records!!!).

Yep he has that, the green buff log book,he has that then the new 1977? release aswell,so he had it in 1977 for sure I remember, think he had it in the summer of 76...
If its a maybe that he is the longest owner then I will have to dig deeper to find out for sure,i know photos exist of me sitting on the bonnet of the triumph and I,am very young also I think he has the petrol ration book for it.

I do not qualify for a single owner. My car has only had 2 owners, me and another person. Which means my car has shared two owners over 43+ years.

37 years for me on my mk2 but I would imagine there are longer ownerships than that. Some of our members who clocked up long term 40 plus years ownership from new have now sadly passed away but it says a lot about these cars when we still don't part with them for so long. I still get a lot of pleasure from mine whether it's long holidays, continental trips or occasionally I might even nip to work in it.

Hi guys,

I bought my 1974 2500 in August 1978 and still have it to this day. That makes me 41 1/4 years ownership.

Here is a picture of my car taken at Uxbridge auto show in July this year, complete with my new wire wheels.

That's fantastic Pete, you must be very attached to your lovely car, it looks really smart. Obviously we cannot think of anything better to replace them with.
