hi chaps,
i am new to the forum and have a problem with fuel spilling out of the fuel cap when cornering.
i have a 2500s saloon and it is fitted with an after market locking one.
all the seals are intact.
am i better going for a standard one? and if so can anyone tell me where to get a decent one from?
any help really appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the forum,
I would think that both standard and aftermarket locking fuel caps are ok, mine is lockable and it's been there over 30 years.
The cap can either leak from it's own sealing ring or some leakage can come from under the neck of the filler, mine leaked from under the neck so I cut a rubber washer to fit. It's now been ok for years-but you need the correct rubber material, I bought some from and auto jumble stall.

It would appear that aftermarket fuel caps mostly leak with a full tank on right hand turns, but some don't, apparently. I never had any success with the locking ones in the past, but I never had a leaky standard one!

Over the years, I too have tried locking filler caps on my Triumphs, and I never had one that wouldn't dribble fuel as Dave says on right hand lock, especially with anything more than half a tank of fuel.
I reverted back to the original non locking cap on all mine; however, they never get left out out overnight anywhere where I would have been dubious about returning to the car to find the petrol had been syphoned.....
Leaking fuel caps have always been an issue with our Triumphs - good old 5* fuel leaking from the fuel filler caps used to instantly strip the in house applied 'day glow orange' cellulose livery on the Triumph 2000/2500's in the Lancashire Police fleet; hence the decision to paint the all the side panels except the rear nearside wing which, to the unknowlegable, looked rather odd......

Not the prettiest solution,
I retained the original cap and fitted a lock into the filler flap.
(This lock actually came from an Austin Ambassador but there were lots of other suitable ones).
