Just seen this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1972-TRIUMPH- ... SwlMFZIehv on ebay. I remember this car being advertised and sold within the past year I think. Does anyone know anything about it? What a real shame for the owner.
Re: Vandalised car advertised
If it were mine, such a nice looking car, I'd just get her repainted.

Re: Vandalised car advertised
I'd avoid it like the plague....!!
I personally think the £5995 asking price is rather enthusiastic, given that the car 'just needs a full body respray', and appears to have had a reasonable amount of 'messing' from original. To do a proper repaint on it will set you back several thousands. It states it is 'solid' having had the necessary work carried out, but it doesn't really give that impression when you look at it.
The chestnut interior incidentally looks very shabby, but it does say the full blue 'leather' (?) will be supplied.....why change it in the first place if the car is such low mileage?
For the insurance to give a payout of over £9000 for it amazes me too - however if they are giving cars like this that sort of value, it can only be to our benefit! I'd be interested the price paid to buy it from the insurance, or more likely a salvage auction.
It's a 2000 at the end of the day - not even a PI!
Call me sceptical, but if a person bought it supposedly restored and then found out it wasn't as good as they first thought, or bought it with the intention of restoring it and found it needed more spending on it, or even just purely got fed up of it, and then 'some really naughty person' threw paint over it and vandalised it to an extent that the insurance declared it a total loss and paid out the agreed value?
You'd be ............ ! (fill in the blank).
Like I say, call me sceptical, but...........

Re: Vandalised car advertised
You just beat me to it, John. As you say, it doesn't look like a 17,000 mile car, no sill trims, paint worn off the fan & choke controls, 'S' wheels and (cockeyed!) TC badges on a '72 car . And the engine bay, well what can I say?
Just my opinion, of course, but I know what a 17000 mile car looks like and it isn't that.
Caveat emptor!

Re: Vandalised car advertised
And it appears to have had the commission plate removed...?
I am a bit behind with current values, but I think that £6k is perhaps a bit steep. Nice sapphire blue though, especially combined with the white two-tone!
All in all, definitely buyer beware.
Cheers,
Mike.
