Re: Rare cars you've seen recently
Two for CRAJ:
First a Lancia 037 (first one I've ever seen in the flesh) then, a few miles later, a rather fine MkII or MkIII Jensen Interceptor.

Now a Lancia 037, always overshadowed by it's Stratos forebear and 4wd Deltas that came after it.
Developed I'm sure from the Beta montecarlo which was originally to be the FIAT X1/20 and a very effective rally weapon.
Almost forgotten by people these days.
No need to say anything about the Interceptor
Just reading the latest Classic cars mag (more automotive porn) featuring some more personal faves in the shape of the Lamborghini Miura, Alfa Guilia and the NSU Ro80!

Re: Rare cars you've seen recently
I must admit, Colin, that the Lancia confused me at first - I had only a second or so to see it as it came past me on a fast bend, and first thoughts was that it was a radically lowered Delta Integrale But, no, an 037 is what I'm sure it was.
Referring to Wim Oude Weernink's learned history of Lancia, I see that only 200 roadgoing (Stradale) versions of the 037 were made, so little surprise that it's taken me thirty years to lay eyes on one!

Re: Rare cars you've seen recently
I've had a bit of a hard time over the last couple of weeks. First I got a corneal ulcer (in an eye I can't really see out of) then it got infected and then the other eye got infected in sympathy. So I was backwards and forwards to Southampton Eye Hospital (70ish mile round trip) and then I was an inpatient for a few days. There were two compensations. Firstly, I got to spend quite a lot of extra time in the Triumph and secondly, in some sort of cosmic realignment perhaps, I saw a nice classic on every trip. These included a well patinated Volvo Amazon estate, a very early Mini, an apple green Frogeye Sprite with racing roundels on the doors and bonnet, a very nice Volvo Amazon saloon, a vast Ford Galaxy(!), a mk3 Capri, a Morris Minor ragtop and a Mk1 which is the first Triumph 2000 I've come accross on the road for years.
Re: Rare cars you've seen recently
In the carpark at work today, a car that I haven't seen for nine years nearly and it was very poor then.
A '73 Mimosa yellow Dolomite Sprint. Manual overdrive and the subject of a complete rebuild by the owner Mark.
One of the first 2000 made and rare on an 'L' plate.
Everything seems to be correct, no centre console or headrests, most of the (optional sundym) glass is dated as '73, early rear bumper etc.
Shame he parked it on the other side of the building to the estate, I'm in HOE today and that is rare being an 'N' plate 'S' with a 3 figure commission number.
Pictures from my phone to follow later .

Talking with Mark the sprint is VA 684 and was registered in Leeds the day after the official launch!

Saw a Lada Niva 4wd yesterday and found it strangely attractive. Time for a lie down I think...
Re: Rare cars you've seen recently
I have always half fancied one, ideal in heavy snow and very easy to fix.Trevan wrote:Saw a Lada Niva 4wd yesterday and found it strangely attractive. Time for a lie down I think...
I had an '87 FSO 125P 1300 for a year in '92. I used it everyday for work and clocked 25k in it, mostly 5 up. Had to replace the alternator twice (breakers both times). Even that was probably due to driving it at an indicated 80mph all the time after fitting it with 14" Lancia wheels to up the gearing. We used to get some very strange looks from reps in Sierras and Cavaliers that I flashed to move out of the way on the M25 when we went bowling past in an FSO:lol:
As a work tool you couldn't fault it, discs all round but no headrests, ohv Fiat engine from the 60s, rwd. Huge boot for 5 toolboxes, but only about 25mpg Shockingly heavy steering with 175/14s on the front though.
Sold it to one of my sisters who had another 12k mile year out of it with no probs and sold it to someone else for the same money. It was a sort of polished primer grey that had faded in the sun a bit.
