Top Front Panel Wanted

#1 Post by Firewatcher » Mon Mar 11, 2019 7:25 pm

Hi All,
Does anyone happen to have one of these panels in better condition than this one that they might consider selling ? This motor was stored under a tall hedge and leaves have blocked the drainage holes - as if by magic it has turned this panel into cornflakes. At least it is easy to get to if I end up having to make one.

I hope the rest of the car has survived better than the front panel!!
Unless the rest of the car is infinitely better than the front end on the photo, then you are a very brave man!!

Try td fitchetts, bought this one 6 months ago. The part number is in the photo. Before you go grinder happy save the bonnet mounting plates on the underside your going to need those. All the best with your project.

Up late blurry eyed, that is a mk2 you have! The above is for a mk1. Worth giving them a call they might have a mk2 panel.

Hi you Guys, Thanks for replies, luckily the rest of the car is indeed much better and well worth putting back into service. I will try Fitchetts tomorrow, it is a Mk2 , and the part number on yours is different than Rimmers reckoned, but it looks close to me and would save me a bit of work even if I need to modify it a bit. Bonnet plates survived, so can reuse them.

According to my 1974 parts book the p/n is 575893 and comes in two pieces, bonnet mounting & front upper panel assembly.
Unfortunately none of the usual suspects list them apart from Chris Witor who is out of stock at the moment.
Whether they are on Lloyd Reed's list of remanufactured panels, I'm not too sure.
Good luck in your quest!

Yes that part number corresponds with that Rimmers gave me, but they don't have one. The hinge plates are loose in the shaped pocket and they are captive by a flat plate welded to the underside of the Top panel see photo - underside of the good? side. Presumably hence the two parts mentioned and why Tinsmith-Skippy said hang on to them. Fitchetts aren't that far from me so will keep my fingers crossed and that the cost is realistic.

The two parts listed in the parts book look to be the upper exterior panel (ie between the front wings, just in front of the bonnet, plus the bonnet mounting panel which is the badly corroded bit in your first post.

Hi Dave, Yes, looks like you are right - the one in Tinsmith_Skippy's pic is likely the number for the hinge support panel alone. Either way, Fitchetts don't have one, so I have emailed Lloyd Reed and Earlpart Longbridge with a picture to see if they have anything. Sad to think that I have scrapped several of these over the years - if only!

Earlpart has ceased trading due to (I believe) the passing of the owner Neil Eyres.
David Kingerley Classic Car Spares near Nottingham has bought the majority of his stock, and maybe worth a call.
His mob is 07977914088.
