Mk 2 Brake master cylinder.

#1 Post by Alec » Fri Jul 27, 2018 1:55 pm

Hello all,

has anyone a MK 2 brake single line master cylinder (13/16" bore) for sale? I need one for my car.
It seems that this item is now getting very difficult to source and do not seem to be available any longer from the usual sources?
Alternatively, does any one know of a supplier who may have stock?

As you say, Alec, they are very thin on the ground, and expensive when they do turn up. Have you tried getting quotes for having your old one resleeved with a stainless steel tube? There are several companies that do this specialist machining.

Hello Dave,

thanks for the reply, but my problem is the reservoir is leaking at the base seam and proving problematical to solder, presumably due to the brake fluid being difficult to clean effectively.
If I can't find one I'll have another go or as a last resort make a new reservoir.

Until I started looking I was not aware that they are so scarce?

Alec
Why not try to get another second hand reservoir from Andy Harrison. They are of course separate to the cylinder! Others may have one too.

Pay attention at the back there, Charles
Its a brake master cylinder Alec needs, not a clutch m/c.
Here's a new one, Alec, allegedly fits the the Triumph mk2's as well as the Cresta PB/PC, but check the position of the mounting flange.

That one listed ^ has the holes in the mounting flange in a vertical plane (as does the Mk1), whereas a Mk2 that Alec requires has the mounting holes diagonally.

Hello Dave/Johnny,

thanks for the info.

Yes the flange is wrong but that's not insurmountable. It's had a hard life for a new item and I suppose the price reflects the scarcity?

Thanks again,

Iain

Hello all,

a quick speell on Google seems to indicate a 3/4" bore for the Vauxhall fitment? The flange orientation is probably Lockheed's way of ensuring that visually similar but different bore sizes do not get fitted by accident?
