Yup, sure can. We're planning to be at Stoneleigh. Otherwise, we're a mile or so off the A34 near Didcot.

I'll get the waders out and see what I've got in the shed. (The shedd should be dry, it's just getting to it!) The PI is converted to Halogens and I must sell the 2000 so won't have the need for them after that.

If yours are blowing, it's probably worth checking the alternator output voltage. In all the years I ran big saloons with standard headlamps, I can't recall ever blowing any....

If anything, I reckon the alternator is showing its age and running under voltage. With the dipped beams on and at low revs, the ignition warning lamp occasionally lights up to a certain degree... Another job on the list

Have a look at this, Jim, outright purchase, no exchange unit, very good value imo. I got one last year for the 2500, 15 min job.

Flickering ignition lamp is often caused by worn slip ring brushes. They are easy to change but if you can get a new one for little money, (I can't see that one Dave mentions due to the IT police here at work), then that also takes out any uncertainties with the other bits in there!

Well, MUT did me proud, two Lucas lamps reaching me on Saturday morning

I popped over to see Richard Brake on Sunday afternoon, to have a look at how he's used relays to wire in the halogens on his wife's estate, and I took the opportunity to change my PI's blown lamp. All done in a jiffy, and tested too.

Half way home, round about dusk, I noticed that the usual two light reflection in the rear of the cars in front looked odd... Yep... The other dip/main beam had blown... Talk about buses...

Thank goodness Ted had sent me two lamps...

Several years ago, I went through a phase of several NOS Lucas sealed beam (dipped) units blowing regularly on my 'S'. You could tell they were on their way as they went black at the top before failing. They only lasted several short trips during the dark before going 'pop'.
I tried several NOS boxed ones that I had and they all went the same way. I then fitted some aftermarket ones (different lens pattern unfortunately), but they have been fine ever since.
The main beam (75 watts) have been fine.
Coincidence? or a faulty batch of NOS Lucas (although they could be quite old) ....?

Had this on the estate would fit and try and all fine but put all trim back on and one would blow.
Found out it was the pin socket not.connecting correctly or at least that cured.the issue

I think Lee has a possible answer there.
A loose connection on one pin would cause a heat build up and could lead to a blown lamp, or worse still a small fire. It's worth checking if you need to change a lamp or Halogen filament lamp.

I also wonder if some of the old ones leak. They are supposed to be sealed beam, but if air can get in it will burn out the filament pretty quickly. I too have seen a blue colour appearing on the glass sometimes.
