Mk 2 Master Cylinder
Mmmm ok. as much as it pains me to re - do stuff I will look at that. I have not long ago come across a 'note to self ' , stating to check 'seized nearside front wheel'. That must be the NSF new caliper that has seized.Rebuilds I assume are fine, but not over a long period. End up forever chasing tails.

Re: Mk 2 Master Cylinder
When I recommissioned the PI, I knew the rear wheel cylinders had seized (that is pretty obvious to deduce!). I then removed the old brake pads and moved the front caliper pistons which seemed quite 'stiff'. I replaced the pads and re applied the brakes and the pistons moved but then jammed the pads tight against the disc. I moved the pistons back and forth using a combination of the foot brake and a piston retracting tool in an attempt to get them moving, eventually deciding the calipers needed rebuilding as the pistons moved but were difficult to move as freely as I expected. I disconnected the flexi hose, and found the pistons moved quite 'normally' deducing the hoses had collapsed internally. New hoses and everything worked as expected. So before you automatically assume the caliper is seized, check the cheaper options first before purchasing new or rebuilding with new pistons - ie the hoses, or that the pads are free to move in the caliper and are not corroded hindering their free movement.

Re: Mk 2 Master Cylinder
Yes I will be removing all the front mechanicals anyway so I will hopefully have an idea exactly what has occurred. I had already fitted braided Goodrich ones at the front when I fitted the calipers.

Re: Mk 2 Master Cylinder
Hi there, I was wondering if anyone had a picture or exploded view of the mk2 brake master cylinder internals? The single line early version? I decided to try a rebuild on mine, but the kit from Rimmers has an extra rubber washer in it, so just want to check where everything goes.
Thanks very much.

Re: Mk 2 Master Cylinder
If you have access to a official Triumph 2000 / 2.5PI MK2 Spare Parts Catalogue (buff in colour), then it gives a clear sectional diagram of the innards of the Mk2 brake master cylinder on Plate AN, and the order of reassembly.
There should be 4 rubber seals in the kit, a thin shim washer, plus the rubber corrugated tapered end cover that sits in the aperture in the servo. Triumph part no. 513389, or the Lockheed equivalent.
Brief order of refitting -
Flat rubber washer
Small cup washer (open end first)
Spring with the two ends - thick end first
Large cup washer (open end first)
Thin shim washer
Piston with new seal fitted (lip of seal in first), with long section of piston body first
Thick washer
Circlip
Tapered corrugated cover
The Triumph workshop manual diagram needs you to have a degree in something beyond me to decipher it.
If I knew how to put pictures on this forum, then I'd photograph it and post it on here for you, but unfortunately, I don't......unless someone else can oblige?

Re: Mk 2 Master Cylinder
The re build kits are for several applications. It is normal to have an extra seal at the end because different cylinders use different seals.

Re: Mk 2 Master Cylinder
Thanks very much for your help guys, rebuilt the master cylinder this morning and all seems good. The system bled through easily and it seems to be holding pressure. I'll ignore the spare washer.......
Thanks again...
