The tyres on my 2.5S ESTATE, are 175 HR 14 and are due for renewal. Will it be beneficial to fit 185 section tyres, if so do I fit them to both axles, or just one? (Front or Rear?).
Thanking you,

I expect you will have trouble finding a set of 175\'s for your car. You can still get 185/70 14 quite easily, most of the cars I have seen have had this size fitted. As for benefits the 185\'s will probably be cheaper than 175\'s (if you can find some) but the speedo will be very slightly out. Not sure what effect fiting the slightly bigger ones front or rear would have (if any). Best to get a full set of the same size so you can swap them round easily.

Personally I run my S Estate on 195/65/14 tyres. Wider and more grippy, but the lower profile means that the rolling radius is the same as 174/14 so the gearing and speedo are right.
Always (15 years) used this size and nothing else!!

Well, depends on the use of your car. Mine only does a few thousand a year and to be honest I always used TECHNICS NOVA\'s. They are high performance remoulds made under licence by AVON. Never let me down and are about £30 each! I now have some rather expensive Goodyear Eagles on and they feel just as good as the cheap ones! If you use your car alot then put some decent branded tyres on, if you only do small mileages then put cheapies on, they will need replacing due to age before wear becomes an issue!

Just to be a trainspotter the 195/65 x 14 is actually 4% smaller in circumference than a 175 x 14 so you think the car goes 4% quicker than it really does assuming the speedo was ever correct (which they aren\'t)
Good for top speed boasts though
