Swapping a 2500 engine for a 2000

#1 Post by Phil T » Sat Nov 28, 2015 9:10 pm

The engine in my 2000 needs a rebuild, and I have managed to get a 2500 to rebuild and then will swap this into the vehicle when done so that I can continue to use the car. This will be done over the next few months.

Obviously I will need to make some changes, the first one I can thing of is the carburretion. Can I re-jet my HS4's for the bigger engine (this means I can reuse my inlet manifold) or should I use HS6's with a different manifold?

Also what other issues am I likely to come across?

Hello Phil,

the early 2500 TC used HS4s and the only difference I can see was a change of needle to ABU (CUD1042) instead of the ABL of the 2000, springs and jets are the same.

Thanks Alec, I had heard that and not really after performance so seems the reasonable solution.

Other ideas welcome! I still have to clear the garage some more (after a house move) so am not starting the rebuild straight away.

I should have a set of HS4s from an early 2500TC somewhere, C/W manifold if that helps. However, also be aware that the carbs should match the CAM, head etc. and they will depend on where the 2500 engine came from.

Cheers,
Mike.
