What do you suggest, would like to make the car more lively and both handle and brake better if possible.
Don,t want to go mad or upset it much, its had a few things already done and does go well already.

Taking John's comment into consideration, I would look to do the cheap/free things first.
Our cars do go, handle and brake nicely when in fine fettle.
Check the condition of everything first, bushes, rear springs (usually poor if original on mk2 saloons), dampers, brake discs, pads etc.
Just tuning the engine and changing worn ignition parts for good nos items might make a lot of difference, a tappet check and advance/retard lubrication is free along with carb balancing and tuning.
Brakes can be transformed for the price of new brake fluid and a bleed.
Original asbestos laden pads make a big difference and are a lot cheaper than 1144s, checking the rear drums are adjusted properly will improve pedal feel too.

Had a closer look at the engine tonight the casting number on the head is and the stamped number is 516816 which makes it an early P.I head on a MM bottom end.
The spec of the TC head is 3.475 in height and the Exhaust valves are 30.2mm.
The fitted head is 3.400 in height and the valves are 32mm.
Now if i,am right in saying isn,t that a sort of hot head but on a TC/S bottom end, with the height differance and the larger valves doesn,t this make it a bit breathed on?,and what type ofcompression etc will this be running, finding out what cam it has will be difficult but i doubt its standard.
Can,t understand why this would be changed for the P.I head, but maybe a cheaper way to get a bit more BHP?
Would 130 BHP sound about right with this setup.
I want to look at the carb needles aswell.

Have drawn up a list of jobs i want to do.....
Get front discs skimmed(pitted)
Fit uprated front pads
Braided brake hoses
Uprated shocks
Solid rack clamps
rebuilt lower arms with poly bushes.
Reinforced tie bars
Poly bushes in various areas
new engine/gearbox mounts
Sports coil/leads
Think that will do for a start!!
