Hello Ian,
"None of the 2000 range has a coolant low level warning. "
True but then again few cars of that era had. However if you notice the temperature gauge dropping that is the first indication of a loss of coolant, and as the temperature sensor is so high on the engine it is a good warning device.

Re: engine cooling
It may be worth adding some louvres to the rear of the bonnet to allow the dreaded hot air to escape more quickly from the engine bay...
A company called 'Cool Louvres' (Google them...) did the above to a Dolomite bonnet that was going on a race/track day car and I think they have done a splendid job...
Obviously for a road going car something a bit more subtle would be needed like two rows of 5 or 6 toward the rear of the bonnet.
I'm going to get a 'summer bonnet' done for my Toledo

Re: engine cooling
Hello Grifterkid,
I believe the effectiveness of louvres is rather less than might be expected due to the airflow over them blocking off any extraction effect. The works cars used a duct through each of the wings towards the rear of the wing.

Re: engine cooling
I did an experiment on wed....i fitted an electric fan a while ago to help the engine driven one. it seemed to do the trick....then decided to remove the engine driven fan to see if there would be a diference, there was!!! i got stuck behind a lorry on porlock hill between minehead and lynmouth, 1 in 4 hill with an odd hairpin bend, 10 miles an hour, electric fan working, 1st gear then 2nd and back to 1st, temp gauge between 3/4 and red for 2 miles! put the engine fan back on when i got home
"life is great.....but no longer with a 2000
Re: engine cooling
Hello Chris,
it does depend on the capacity of the electric fan.

........and also the recent unusually warm weather doesn't help. First time in a long time my 2500 went the wrong side of normal was on the Nationals treasure hunt on steep climbs at low speeds.Alec wrote:Hello Chris,
