I have a standard tank that I am using for (electronic) injection.

The CAV filter I am using works as a perfect swirl pot— though I haven't tested it on track yet. It certainly works on a low tank.

I had to use a standard type of filter at the weekend after I stripped a thread on the CAV filter head. It was useless :)

again I'd forgotten that the Mk2 instruments are a (slightly?) smaller diameter, I think I used a sheet of aluminium to enable them to fit the Mk 1.

I fitted mk1 cowls to Mk2 instruments.... alternately keep the Mk1 dials

Keep the Mk1 dials— Mk2 dials will just look wrong in a Mk1

Hello James\Andy,

I wanted a tachometer, which the Mk 1 never had? and I preferred to have it in the dash rather than the, to me, untidy pod mount. I never did like the white dials of the Mk 1 anyway.

Alec,

I much prefer the late Mk1 black dials to the early white.

I have seen a black (Elliot or Smiths) tacho that looks fairly standard installed in a late Mk1— with separate 2 inch gauges moved to the centre console to replace the standard 3-way.

I have the issue of lacking a tacho— I plan to use the choke light as a shift light— I only need it to know when I am red-lining it?

I no longer have a choke so will replace the choke pull with a push button to spin the engine over for oil pressure— otherwise it starts instantly.

I like the white dials! I don't want a tacho in mine....it would frighten me! Ask the polisher!

What about the narrower gearbox tunnel on the pre-facelift cars?

Not a problem unless you go for a 6 - 3 - 1 manifold. The tunnel will then need 'dressing with a large tube shaped dolly and a hammer! One of the reasons mine hasn't got one! The other is the ££££s  The larger bore pipe needs very careful routing to avoid it touching the bodywork! Know all about that one!

Hi Alec, I see you have a Mk2 steering column with all its switches and lock. How do you do that ? I thought about that on my Mk1 - but it would need all the Mk2 body brackets; parts of it suck out in the wrong place, so I thought too much trouble. The real advantage being that a Mk1 boss is no longer available for my fancy steering wheel. or is there another bodge.

Hello Steve,

sorry for the slow response but I've been without a P.C. while doing some house work. (Not housework :-)).

It is a mixture of Mk 2 and Mk 1 column. Unfortunately I don't remeber exactly what I had to do, I do know I had to chop (Shorten I think?) the section from the column to the rack to make it all work. I didn't use the steering column ignition switch but kept the Mk 1 dash switch.

I could remove the shroud and take a picture if that will help you?
