alternative axles

#1 Post by djw113uk » Mon Apr 05, 2010 1:34 pm

I have just aquired a rover SD1 axle - whilst trying to get hold of a flywheel! I was just wondering if the parts from the SD1 diff could be built into the triumph diff casing? I havent really studied them in any depth yet!

Thanks

My Triumph V8 has the internals from a Holden diff fitted into the original Triumph casing, so I'd say there's a good chance that it could be done. The casing was modified though and I don't know how, as I bought the car with it already done. I don't know for sure or anything, but I'd say there's a possibility that the Holden diff internals are similar to the Rover, as they're probably both made by Borg Warner or someone anyway! I'm sure someone else here would know...

The SD1 rear axle was designed and built by... Triumph :)

No idea as to if/how the SD1 bits will fit the old 2.5 final drive casing, however. Certainly, few if any of the parts numbers seem to be common... :(
