Well hopefully a sealed for life auto box is a bit like a sealed for life battery - a bit of work with a large pry bar usualy reveals where the electrolyte can be topped up!

The Ford 4-speed auto conversion was undertaken by Register member Dave Hosegood and described in detail in the December 2002 and February 2003 issues of Six Appeal.
The gearbox in question was a Ford A4LD from a 1986 Ford Granada 2.9i, though with some Ford Sierra and Triumph Stag componentry employed also. I don't know whether the A4LD was ever used in Australian Fords (Falcon?) but, if so, this might be a route worth exploring.
Good luck!

Hi Kevin,
Too true! Funnily enough, the same 5-speed 'box is used on some BMWs and they have a dispstick/filler tube. The main issue is that regular fluid changes does seem to extend the life of the 'box, but this is difficult to do with no drain plug or filler!
Luckily mine is the 4HP24 version C/W dispstick/filler tube. No drain plug though....
Cheers,
Mike.

Is it possible to get back copies or photocopies of those articles?
