Can anybody give me information on a relay that could be used for uprated H4 headlamps? I was thinking of a Lucas type relay, like used on the overdrive. It must of course, be able to supply the low and high beams seperately. Do I need one relay or must I go to 2 relays?
I seem to remember seeing such a thing somewhere but for the life of me, I cannot remember on which car.

Hello Peter,
I would go for two relays.Try your local Auto electrical supplier to see what he has in stock.
Alec,
I am not sure if I can hide the relays that\'s why I wanted if possible to put in relays that looked a little bit original. At least appropriate to the age of the car. Hence the thought Lucas overdrive type of relays.

Hello Peter,
do you have a location for them? (MK 1 or Mk 2 by the way, I forget)
The relays I have used are a small cube about 20 to 25 mm and can be tucked away out of sight, say in the nose section.
Alec,
MK2
I have seen that \"a certain component supplier\" has a kit of 4 relays and wiring. This is obviousy the best as one gets maximum supply to each bulb. It is not cheap. I am sure your solution is much cheaper. What were the ratings.
As the car is 99.5 % original I want to try and keep it up to this standard.

Hello Peter,
a supplier I use is Vehicle Wiring Products
(http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.co.uk) and they list 12 volt single pole
single throw 30 amp relays at £4.01 each or fused at £7.25. They also
list a s.p.s.t. with double out terminals at £4.85 (30A).

They also supply the correct colour cables 28\0.030mm 25amp at £0.30 per metre.

I would suggest that two of the 30 amp (three if you would rather use
one relay per pair of filaments, a better choice really) could be
fitted on a small panel together with a 6 way fuse holder, if you
wish. This could be installed discreetly under the battery stand.

I can give you a diagram if you need one, just let me know your E-Mail address.
