I thought it was me...living at the bottom of the world  ....obviously not, I do the same, almost upside down and fairly slowly seems to work for me on most pumps. Maybe I should fit a Spitfire tank.

It is SO reassuring to discover I'm not the only one of the upside down club!!

2 o clock and resting the outer tube on the petrol 'gun' on the filler lip. Then full throttle! Don't stand opposite it, but to one side!! £90 later it will cut off followed by a small splash back. Then full throttle again on the accelerator this time. Oh, and don't forget to pay or the rossers will be full throttle behind you!!

That is just like my pi Charles, just occassionally the cut out doesn't work and it's a large (and expensive) splashback.
The estate is fine until full, that occassionally splashs back down the wing.
I wonder how many people reading this fill their cars on even a semi regular basis and would be concerned by what happens at the nearly full point?

I don't ever have a problem with the tank leaking at the cap once full though, except when I tried a locking cap on the pi, soon went back to the chrome rad cap with no internals.

I've had one big saloon or other since 1974, and it's only recently that I've had the same problems so I agree that the nozzle design has changed. I don't think it's a Triumph design problem as they were fine when new!

I too use the 'Radders' method for filling and I nearly always try to fill the tank as I hate filling up with petrol and it does help to delay the next trip. Mind you, so does a light right foot, but that is taking it a bit too far!

Cheers,
Mike.

Another vote for upside down, half way and slow.

PLUS

Angle it so that it shoots down the middle of the pipe, not against the side.

(My Landrover is the same but with a wire mesh. Aim at the centre and it blasts straight through. Aim at an angle and the filter suddenly becomes impervious to petrol and it backs up in a split second.)
