Good afternoon to all,
I would like to make my MKII PI Limousine (white), imported from Italy
street legal. But I only have some poor sheet of the automobile club d`Italia
without any precise information of the car (no commission Nr. or anything else).
Tipical italien vendors ! no papers at all !!!!!!
The commission Nr. in the engine bay is: 1 MG 14812 LDL
BSAU 48 1965
bove is a small screewed plate: BCSL 104 C 62
What does it say ?
Is it possible to identify my car and ask for verification from England
to support my legal report ?
....Marco

Hi Marco
If you contact the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust they will issue you with a certificate (for which a fee must be paid) which states build date and everything else that is relevant from their records. This should amply satisfy any requirements for any country for registration purposes.
Full details of the service can be found on their web site, Google 'British Motor Industry Heritage Trust' or BMIHT'.

Marco
The small screwed on plate is just the body ID number used in the factory. The commision number is the main identification of the car. This number shows it is a 2·5PI Mk2 as produced between Oct 1969 and May 1974. The sequence is MG1..85579. I think from memory that the 1 before the MG and the LDL after the number means that is was a car built from a knock down kit and is a manual overdrive model. The service notes have a comprehensive listing with more information. I would expect that your car is approx a 1970 with the number MG14812! Someone may be able to look at the notes and add to this posting!

Re: Triumph Identification / HELP !
Hi Marco,
as Charles said, the "1" prefix states that your car was built 'abroad' from a CKD, in this case in Belgium. Therefore the BMIHT does not have any documentation to share, so I guess they would not offer you a certificate for this car (been there, done that). [anorak mode: the suffix 'LDL' says left-hand drive saloon, and only the 'O' behind that would say overdrive, but I think Marco's car features the 'O']
I'd say all the necessary information is in the Repair Operation Manual (which hopefully is 'official' enough for the authorities). Otherwise it is said that TUEV SUED keeps the specifiation sheets for all cars officially imported to Germany (like the 2.5 PI Saloon).
I'm not sure if it would be smart to tell the authorities that your car is of Italian origin?! You might contact Alexander from Fuerth (alex0469 in this forum) as he had some trouble to get the approval for his Austrian import, but he finally managed! (Only I don't know, how.)
Good luck
Thorsten

Re: Triumph Identification / HELP !
My PI is quite close to that number but I think in the low 14000s and was registered feb '71, I am awaiting confirmation of its build date as I write this, but I am sure it was made late '70. So Charles is fairly close.Charles H wrote:Marco. I would expect that your car is approx a 1970 with the number MG14812! Someone may be able to look at the notes and add to this posting!
As Thorsten states the commission number would also feature an 'O' at the end if manual overdrive, or 'BW' if Borg Warner automatic. Overdrive was an expensive option at the time and not always specified, not all PIs were equipped with it as standard.
The normal ending on the commission number for a rhd saloon would be 'DL', with 'SC' being an estate.
If I was in the PI rather than the estate today I could have given the exact numbers for her rather than what I can remember, will check later when I get home.
Cheers Colin.

Yes of course but may be worth the enquiry.Thorsten wrote:as Charles said, the "1" prefix states that your car was built 'abroad' from a CKD, in this case in Belgium. Therefore the BMIHT does not have any documentation to share, so I guess they would not offer you a certificate for this car
Your profile does not state whether you are a Register member but if you are and you are after something official perhaps Alan Crussell can help - send him a PM (look him up under 'Members', 'Username begins with A', he is no. 22 in that list), or contact him via the Secretary address in Six Appeal. I know he is trying to pull back from Register work (he deserves the break after being involved from the start in 1981) but I am sure he would help if he could.
