Re: Steering column bulk head rubber gromit
As Phil T says, easier with the shelf removed, also disconnect the multi-plugs for the wiper/indicator/lights & ignition switches to allow the steering column to be pulled back inside the car once the rake adjustment clamp & the top bolt in the steering shaft u/j have been removed. As previously men...

Re: Engine knock but good oil pressure
The "National" is a week long (or less if you wish) meeting of owners and people interested in the Triumph 2000/2500 range. Its not all car related though, plenty to do, day trips to local places of interest etc. The venue changes every year, but usually on a nice holiday park somewhere between Scot...

Re: Engine knock but good oil pressure
No, as far as I know, they usually crack from the bolts securing the flexiplate to the crankshaft, not the bolts fastening the plate to the torque converter.
If you Google image search "triumph cracked flexplate" you should get one two results to show what I mean!

Re: Engine knock but good oil pressure
My money would be be on the autobox flexiplate, I think that's where I would start investigating. Its easier to drop the gearbox to have a look than take the engine out, the engine seems happy enough with good oil pressure and compression readings. Those driveplates can develop radial cracks from on...

Re: Hi from Lancashire.
Hello John and welcome to the forum. Aready looking foward to seeing your Triumph, its a bit of a 'Marmite' colour to some, but its a shade I like, having had a Saffron PI and a 2000 in the past. I tried to get a local friend of mine interested in your car when it was for sale, but he let the opport...

Re: Engine only stays started when starter engaged!
As Mike says, but on both my cars the ballast resistor is on the bottom alternator bolt, white in colour, 1/2" square x 2" long with two spade terminals on it.

Re: Engine only stays started when starter engaged!
You could bypass the ballast resistor by joining the two wires together so the coil gets a full 12v, if that doesn't help, try a temporary lead from the battery +ve to the coil +ve. If the engine then runs after the key is released from the start position then the fault is in the coil supply. Could ...

Re: Tow bars
I quite like the look of the Australian style tongue towbar which uses a bolt-on pin rather than a cranked tow ball.
Having said that, I've never seen one in the UK, not on a Triumph anyway.

Couldn't find a pic of one on a Triumph, sorry

Re: Warning lights
Have they ever worked, or have they suddenly just packed in? To test the choke light, you may be able to access the choke switch via the radio aperture (assuming mk2 here) pull the spade connector off and short it to earth with ign on. If the bulbs ok then it should light! Same principle on the hand...
