Re: springs
According to Autocar magazine's new model write up for the Stag (June 1970), front and rear spring rates were 110lb/in and 322lb/in respectively, so quite a bit softer than factory specs for a 2000/2500 estate. No idea whether this changed at any subsequent point during production. As an aside, I di...

Re: Red vinyl on a mk2
IIRC, the Mk2 PI used by Motor magazine for their 1969 road test was grey with a red half/half interior. I have also seen at least one early Mk2 in green with a red interior, but cannot say whether or not the combination was original. I don't think that the Matador Red interior remained a catalogued...

Re: Mk2 handbrake adjustment
Yes, it is the action of the footbrake that adjusts the shoes, but the adjusters don't always appear to be too keen to take-up with the handbrake cable connected  With the cable released, it is not unusual to hear the ratchets go out a couple of clicks with a good hard application of the pedal.

Re: Mk2 handbrake adjustment
Hi Phil, One thing you might try is to disconnect the handbrake cable from the operating levers on the rear drums, then give the footbrake a couple of good hard applications before reconnecting the cable. This has worked for me on more than one occasion (I believe it works by relieving the adjusters...

Re: Windscreen trim
I'm not sure that S-T actually offered this tool as a ready-made item, and not aware of anyone else doing so either... They are, however, easy enough to make using a piece of stiff, heavy-gauge wire fixed into a file handle or, if you already have one of those windscreen trim tools with interchangea...

Re: Radiator cap mod
WCR set-up as photographed on XJB 304H at Gaydon in 2010. WCR Cooling Setup.jpg As Andy points out, the WCR cars do indeed have a small bonnet blister to clear the revised thermostat housing and filler cap, though I have been told that this was necessitated by the engines being mounted slightly high...

Re: Radiator cap mod
I believe that the World Cup Rally 2.5PIs were modified along the lines described. Page 255 of Bill Price's book has a picture of the engine bay of what I think is the WCR test car (WRX 902H) with a filler cap on a modified thermostat housing and the filler port on the radiator blanked-off, but with...

Re: Too much oil
There is one good reason for a mildly overfilled sump with the engine not running, and that is if you have an engine oil cooler fitted. This is to make allowance for the extra oil needed to fill the additional pipework, at least some of which tends to drain back once the engine is switched-off. If y...

Re: Fuel cooling pipe
You're welcome :) As far as I'm aware, Bosch pumps don't have a reputation for overheating, hence my wondering if it is an electrical problem with ignition or the supply to the pump. Your problem could be due to fuel vapour-locking but, if so, I suspect that the issue is more likely to be with a clo...
