Re: Too much oil
I see two possible problems with overfilling: 1) Extra pressure on the oil seals : My unqualified opinion is that a level 1/2" above the top mark on the dipstick won't damage the seals but some oil may leak past them. 2) Oil being thrown into the bores by 'windage' : The crankshaft running close to ...

Re: Tachometer / Rev Counter Stopped Working
My tacho is the type fitted to many cars in the late-60s/early-70s and it has a trimmer accessed by screwdriver through a hole in the back of the housing (so the instrument has to be outside the panel for adjusting). Re: Intermittent brake seizing
As a first step, you could feel each wheel after a run. If one is hotter than the other three it would suggest a calliper piston tending to seize. If each side is at a matching temperature, the problem is likely to be further back in the system.

Re: Tachometer / Rev Counter Stopped Working
Hello Mike. I calibrated it against 30 and 60 MPH road speeds in third gear, read out from a sat-nav held by my son whilst I watched the tacho (on a straight and quiet country road). Doing it at two road speeds confirmed the consistency. I thought it best to submit the write-up to SIXappeal rather t...

Re: Tachometer / Rev Counter Stopped Working
I've repaired my tachometer for a measly £5.29.
I've written up the procedure for SIXappeal, so won't duplicate it here.

Re: Tachometer / Rev Counter Stopped Working
Mine wasn't erratic so far as I'm aware, but I assume the fault is likewise in the instrument itself. I wonder if they are repairable? It's unfortunate that I gave away my spare PI instrument panel to a member wanting to upgrade his 2000. I hope John hasn't made the same error, but he's almost certa...

Tachometer / Rev Counter Stopped Working
The tacho on my pre-facelift 2.5 (ex-PI) suddenly stopped working during a short but eagerly driven journey. Not being very hot on electrical systems, I searched our forum for ideas as to the cause and cure, but without great success. Nothing has been changed that might have affected it, and the ign...

Re: Spin-on oil filters in Oz
Going back to the original enquiry, the Australian filter Ryko Z37 can be added to the list of alternatives to the Fram PH2895.

Re: Spin-on oil filters in Oz
Not sure if the Rimmer Bros adapter is the same as the Witor model, but they supplied me with TJ QFL0099/Wix WL7074 which apparantly fits a whole host of vehicles http://www.oilfilter-crossreference.com/convert/Wix/WL7074 Triumph parts suppliers fall into two categories - those who can be trusted t...

Re: Spin-on oil filters in Oz
Agreed. Fram were the makers of the Perkins filter at the time I spoke of, and the number PH2895 is distantly familiar.Charles H wrote:Don't know if Fram filters are available in Oz? If so part no PH2895 (not PH2895A).
Here's a useful cross-reference: http://www.oilfilter-crossreference.com ... ram/PH2895
