Hello Peter,
it's such along time ago that I changed the crank in my engine for a cross drilled crank that i don't remember if that is short or long, but also seem to remember that it needed the correct flywheel to match?
Why they changed it is also a mystery?

Re: Genuine help from you experts needed!!
Hello Forkie, pulling the choke out will mask what the stuttering fault is by introducing an over rich mixture. However the idea is good from a point of checking the freedom of the piston, if there is an overdue friction from an off centre jet, this should be beneficial and helps pinpoint the proble...

Re: Genuine help from you experts needed!!
Hello Forkie, I suggest you take the front dashpot and piston off and see if it is still tight. It is possible to have it not seated quite right on the carburettor body which will cause the needle to bind, and possibly bend slightly. If it is seated correctly then as John suggest, recentre the jet. ...

Re: Genuine help from you experts needed!!
Hello Forkie, OK, the distributor is not seized, that is one thing eliminated. there is something wrong with the front dashpot, both should feel the same resistance. (In fact S.U. describe a drop test where the transfer holes in the piston are temporarily blocked (plasticine or similar), and the pis...

Re: Genuine help from you experts needed!!
Hello Forkie, The mechanical advance is the shaft which carries the rotor arm, it can rotate on the main drive spindle and is controlled by springs, stop and has weights which advance the rotor arm shaft relative to the main spindle. You should be able to twist the rotor arm one way for a short dist...

Re: Genuine help from you experts needed!!
Hello Forkie, I would suggest soaking the adjusting nut with plus gas, a spray can would be easiest. All things mechanical tend to seize up if left for some time. Talking of which, is the distributor mechanical advance free? Incidentally S.U. sell a mixture adjusting spanner (AUD 2693), which I woul...

Re: cut-outs after reving above 4500rpm
Ginetta, why didn't you adjust the jets? I would imagine that as your last needles were not entirely suitable that you set the jets as a compromise. (All needles have a near identical dimension at idle.) Burlen sell a needle chart listing dimensions of all their needles. Also remember the spring aff...

Hello Peter,
I would say you were lucky, it is just not possible on most cars.

Re: Clutch
Peter,
it just won't work as the side that should face the gearbox will foul the flywheel if mounted back to front.
The function of the springs in the plate is to soften the effect of engaging the clutch as shock absorber.

Re: Petrol Injection rebuild
Hello Ian, OK, I didn't know if the mechanic was familiar with Lucas injection, as it mentioned 'bleeding' which is not normally done, except possibly to check for fuel. The metering unit itself is quite a simple device, just a sliding shuttle in a rotating barrel. Possibly the shuttle is stuck? It ...
