Re: Spin-on oil filters in Oz
...Looking at the list of what it's supposed to fit it seems to be mostly tractors and plant fitted with Perkins diesels. I used to work in the drawing office at Perkins Engines and had access to filter sizing calculations etc. In the 1980's I researched spin-on filters for use with the CW adaptor,...

Re: Painting
I wouldn't expect any challenge in this instance if an acknowledgment is given, but I think it still best to comply with the law and obtain permission to publish. That could help the Register's case if it ever needed to take action in regard to any infringement (i.e. theft) of its own intellectual p...

Don't forget copyright law. Copying by individuals for their own private study is permitted, otherwise permission of the owner must be obtained. Should be a simple formality in this instance as I'm sure the owner of the document will be pleased to see wider distribution, with suitable acknowledgemen...

Re: New (excited) owner
Hello Oliver. The best way to get any history on the car from the Register is to join it (if you haven't already done so) and then submit a letter, or preferably an article with photos, asking for any known history. You'll need to include the registration number (or photos of the car showing it), wh...

Unlike Ted, I think Steve's approach was very fair and reasonable. He is clearly dissatisfied with the quality of one or more of the panels he has bought and appears to have tried to get the problem resolved privately with the supplier before coming on here and asking, simply, if any other member ha...

In addition to Alec's comments...
If the carburettors have poppet valves on the 'butterflies', these can stick and cause idling problems, particularly in slow return to idle speed and/or too-high idle speed.

Re: No reverse
Does the gear lever refuse to go into the Reverse position? If so, and the mechanic removed the gear lever for dropping the box, it's possible that the adjustment to the locating pins each side of the gear lever ball was disturbed and not reset correctly. The two pins need setting so as to prevent r...

Likewise "hmmm" regarding Rimmers. 'Buy cheap and buy twice' is bad enough... having to 'fit twice' as a result only adds to the agony!

The Torro clips should be a good investment, Chris. Araldite v Devcon - I'm not sure which will be the easiest to use. The Devcon I use comes in a fairly large industrial pack comprising a bag of powder and a liquid to be mixed with it. The result is very strong, but it can be awkward getting the ri...
