Re: The continuing clutch saga...
Thanks Jonathan Yes, it does seem very odd - the cap has to be on the way it is because of the shape of the assymetric hole - so if I turned it round it would suit the position of the Herald/Vitesse reverse gear. So what you say makes sense. I can only assume that the reason it hadn't caused trouble...

Re: The continuing clutch saga...
Well, now I'm completely confused. I got a new bolt for the cap and then discovered that I couldn't use it! The hole in the cap for the bolt is at the front when it's fitted. There's a hole in the selector casting behind the gearstick, into which the bold would screw, so I thought "idiot, you've put...

Re: The continuing clutch saga...
Thanks Jonathan The rain IS of the siling down variety that has caused so many problems, I'm afraid, but (touch wood) my location is such that it's all finishing up further down the hill where there aren't any houses, just some very soggy rhubarb. Shame we can't blame the banks for the ruddy weather...

Re: The continuing clutch saga...
And still it rains  Solved the problem of the loose gear stick. The securing cap had come off because the rear fixing bolt was missing...why it hadn't come loose before is a bit of a mystery! So I'll just wait until my good friend Mr Whitehead finds me a new one and that should be the end of th...

Re: The continuing clutch saga...
Hi Alan - many thanks. I know the s/c is the right way up. I'm confused a bit, though when you say push the rod back into the cylinder...maybe I'm being thick here, but if the nipple's open won't the rod stay put? But if it ever stops bl**dy raining I'll get underneath and see if I can understand wh...

Re: The continuing clutch saga...
Hello Mike, Alec Mike - I don't think I mentioned that it was good to meet you too at the National, it's always nice to put faces to names...and I enjoyed our conversations. To business - the pedal isn't "floppy" at all and it's sitting at the right height. You'd use the same amount of foot pressure...

Re: The continuing clutch saga...
Thanks again, good people. The plunger fell out while John I were removing the stick , but that was recovered and put back in with some grease to hold it in place while the stick went back. John told me that it's got something to do with easing the action of moving the stick across the gate for reve...

Re: The continuing clutch saga...
Thanks Chaps I'll check the pedal pivot. If there's any wear, will it be in the clevis itself, or could the pivot hole have gone oval? And while speaking to John W just now, we established that I can just lift the gearlever out, so there's summat wrong with the turret, it appears. I shall investigat...
