Re: Front wheel camber
Centralising the rack also ensures the correct self cancelling of the indicator stalk. Not necessarily. I had a Stag where every single component of the system had been incorrectly set up. The upper part of the column with the self-cancelling mechanism had been misaligned at one of the joints conne...

Re: mk2 subframe mountings
I saw there was a Left and Right on the SS straps, and I did try them both ways round, but wasn't happy with their fit. Just fortunate I had some nos steel ones 'in stock'!

Re: Front wheel camber
Without reading back, I'm not certain what work has been done on the front suspension and steering components, but I would be tempted to centralise the rack before your visit. If the steering wheel has been off previously, there is no guarantee that the rack is centralised with the steering wheel in...

Re: mk2 subframe mountings
I actually had a new pair of stainless anti-vibration straps that I intended fitting. When I offered them up to the car, the angle of each end of the strap didn't sit 'square' to the bush or the floor. I had a pair of brand new 'old stock' steel BL straps and they fitted perfectly. And I agree with ...

Re: Front wheel camber
All in all, if it drives ok, with no noticeable pulling, or wandering and no tyre scrubbing, I would suggest that it probably isn't that far out. If you replaced the shims as they came out, and it appears not to have been messed about with previously, then it probably won't need major adjustment. Ha...

Re: Front wheel camber
From my college days, any 4 wheel alignment done should ideally set the rear track first, before setting the front. The problem with just doing the front tracking is that if the rear is out, then any adjustment to the front track will be compensating for inaccuracies in the rear track. Any inaccurac...

Re: mk2 subframe mountings
It's not too bad being honest. Initially, I would just check for corrosion or stress fractures in the metal work around the reinforcing plate under the back seat - if all is well, I would clean much dirt / underseal etc off the two bushes mounting bolts , and the nut on the large through bolt as you...

Re: Front wheel camber
I would suggest that as on most cars, the lower track control arm should have its final tightening when the front wheels are on the ground, and in their normal position when the suspension has settled, rather than when initially fitted and the wheels are in the 'lower' position whilst the car is sti...

Re: cut-outs after reving above 4500rpm
I think we are all at a loss, made even harder to diagnose distantly..... Relative to the conclusions you have arrived at, as Alec previously suggested, speaking to Burlen Fuels or any other SU specialist may be your only option, as you need a conversation with someone who actually has expertise in ...

Re: cut-outs after reving above 4500rpm
sorry for my late reply. some months ago a had a longer motorway trip and was wondering why i had no cutouts when driving home at night with a quite high speed and constant revs around 4500rpm....next morning it was clear...the choke was still slightly pulled out... I'm intrigued about what speed t...
