The general view is that the Stag Calipers will not fit under a 13" wheel.

Mike.

Re: Rear bulb holder(s)
I'm pretty sure that the original bulb holders did not have separate 1/4" tab connections for the earth, that was done by the springy clips into the lamp assembly. However, the lamp assembly is mainly plastic so may not give a good earth return for the bulb current, especially at the age of our cars...

Re: Timing cover seal
An alternative is to put a 'good' spanner on the bolt head and hit the spanner with a hammer (in the undo direction!). I have used this method on a number of times when there was no other way of locking the crankshaft. It's always worked - eventually! It may take quite a few blows with the hammer. C...

Re: Alternator issues
Hi Phil,
Another clue to failing brushes is that the IGN warning light may come on dimly at low engine revs.
It sounds like you sorted your issue by changing the brushes.
Cheers,
Mike.

Re: Oil Pressure Gauge options
I have one in the Stag (and the Land Rover!). One thing to remember is that these dual gauges normally have capillary sensors for temperature whereas the Triumph one is electric. With a capillary one fitted it's not so easy to completely remove the dash (Mk2) as the capillary tube is connected. This...

Re: Engine out question...
For information, my preferred way is to remove the front suspension and drop the whole lot downwards, either engine and gearbox together or just the engine. The latter means you have to grovel underneath to disconnect the gearbox and I find it easier to re-attach them when out of the car but it is a...

Re: Ignition Timing
Probably best to start with the book setting and then advance/retard until the engine just doesn't pink under high throttle load at low engine revs. If it doesn't pink, advance it a bit until it does, then retard it until it just stops. The problem with just using the book setting is that it would h...

Re: Project Update
I agree with Alec. They are an easy engine to work on with little need for any special tools. They are a bit heavy though.
Doing it yourself will give great satisfaction and at the end you will have a good known engine.
Good luck!

Mike.

Re: Rotisserie/Rollover Jig
I have recently bought a jig for my Mk2. The jig is now assembled but the shell isn't on it - yet! Mine has the height at each end adjustable so your figures Alec will be very useful! Mine came as a 'kit' that needed some welding and includes castors so it can be pushed about - in theory anyway. Fir...

Re: 3.45 diff wanted
Just to add to johnnydog's excellent reply, if you are going to remove the diff C/W front nosepiece, disconnect the hand brake cable at one rear wheel. If you don't the whole lot hangs on the cable and pulls on both rear brakes!

Mike.
