Is the distributor cam free to rotate on the shaft? Mine was rusted so the mechanical advance was all or nothing, and the timing at idle would vary
Simple to check, by grabbing the rotor arm and seeing if it moves freely and springs back.

According to the works manual, post engine MG75000 the static timing is indeed absolute TDC

My PI has the injector number stamped into every elbow jointkevinw wrote:... having first labelled them like one would do with HT leads. My 2000 (obviously) doesn't have injector pipes to worry about, but my other Triumph does.

No need to remove the injector hoses, just undo the three injector keeper plates and withdraw the injectors. Removing the hoses can lead to bleeding issues.
