Re: Autobox queries - kickdown cable slack
If you check on the kickdown cable there should be a crimped stop on the inner cable - according to the workshop manual at idle speed the outer cable should be adjusted to remove the slack so that the stop is just touching the outer cable (threaded end) - this should be the right adjustment but if ...

Re: My new Mk 1
I am going to save up and have the whole car resprayed, will be keeping the original colour. Need to find someone decent to do that preferably in the Hertfordshire area or reasonably close if anyone has any suggestions. Re: Mk 1 Auto
They will be similar. Your 1966 will be a BW35, but could be PRNDL selector pattern, I would expect the PI to be a BW35 as well, but probably PRND21 selector pattern.

Re: Clicking noise, suggestions please
I used to have an annual friendly argument with the MOT tester. He didn't understand taper bearings, and thought they ought to be tight - preloaded like a modern bearing. So I tightened them just before the test and then immediately slackened them again. Now he's retired and I don't do MOT tests an...

Re: Propshaft fitting
FWIW. If you were to have the short yoke attached to the gearbox, and then drive it (without the prop fitted), it would fly outwards, and hit whatever with the force at the end of about 6". If you did the same with the propshaft, it would hit with the force at the end of about 4 foot (the length of ...

The TFL checker doesn't show tax exempt vehicles as exempt, probably by design, so you pay it when you don't have to.

Re: Rear bulb holder(s)
I bought some to fit in a 1950's American Ford and I got those from Robsport. I can't remember how many poles they had (probably less now due to Brexit) but it may be worth giving them a call.

Re: 2500 gearbox conversion from manual to auto
I've got a used 2500 (037 Series IIRC) BW65 box, there may also be a bellhousing somewhere as well, but that's it. It would need a refurb though as it's been standing (albeit in the dry) for years.

Re: Dolly Spint Auto /Practical Classics rebuild '95
When my Stag auto box level was checked before I started it after a long period of activity, the level was noticeably higher - so much so that it concerned me. It's about 8 years ago now since I sold it so this is just from memory (which goes hazy as we all get older!!!!!), but I seem to recollect ...

Re: Oil in coolant - head gasket?
Just one thought - years back, I understand that some people used to advocate the use of a light soluble oil (e.g. machine cutting oil) as an anti-corrosion additive in engine cooling systems And brake fluid. Just a small amount works as a corrosion inhibitor, and can be used in conjuction with ant...
