Re: Diff Parts
The 2000/2.5, Stag, and TR5-6 ranges all have differentials sharing the same basic design (Standard-Triumph 'Large Car'), but with lots of detail differences across models and years of production. Accordingly, you may find the bits you need from a TR or Stag specialist, but I am afraid that you will...

Re: Tracing a Big T's history
The August 2019 edition of SIXappeal (No.228) has an article about the Malines/Mechelen assembly plant.

Re: Tracing a Big T's history
The numeral prefix to the Commission Number indicates that the car would have been assembled at one of Triumph's overseas assembly plants (Belgium, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand). I am pretty sure that '1' signifies assembly at Malines in Belgium. Some LHD cars were also assembled at Canle...

Re: Rear Three quarter vinyl
Did you add many mile sin those 15 years? How has the injection system held up? Still using the original Lucas pump? Not as many miles as I might have liked, though that is due to me, not the car. :) PI system has held up fine, and is one of the particular joys of the car (though what the future wi...

Re: Rear Three quarter vinyl
As far as I am aware, oblique following the window line. I think that the original alignment was on the glass side of the brightwork strip, but some cars do seem to have the leading edge of the vinyl in line with the rear edge of the brightwork, so perhaps the exact placement varied from car to car....

Re: Brake shoe adjuster question
Question. How do you adjust the brake adjusters? Is there a slot in the back plate that I can’t see that you put a screwdriver in to adjust for example? Normally I would slacken the brakes right off, fit the drums, tighten the brakes until the drum stops turning and then slacken off a few turns but...

Re: Gearbox/overdrive question
Just to muddy the waters a little, I used to have a pfl M regd (so post August 73) 2.5PI without o/d, and it was original, only 21000 miles when I got it. The exception that proves the rule?  Perhaps - a possibility that John has already noted - a late registration of a car built someti...

Re: Gearbox/overdrive question
The parts book is a bit of a minefield and confuses things even more  , but it only refers to the 'J' type as being fitted from a particular gearbox number rather than chassis number That it does - not helped by quoting a changeover point for PIs against what is evidently a 2000 gearbox serie...

Re: Gearbox/overdrive question
A 1973 Mk2 PI had 3 options when new - Manual (non overdrive), Manual with an 'A' type overdrive (22% reduction), and Borg Warner 35 automatic. The chassis no. and V5 (registration document) should give you an indication what was in when new. The VIN plate shouldn't have been touched, even if the t...

Re: Prop shaft question...
I am reasonably sure that the original fitment on manual gearbox cars was sliding joint at the rear axle end, and the lubrication chart in my copy of the owner's handbook seems to support that. However, the first volume of the Register Service Notes does reference a BL (New Zealand) Service Bulletin...
