Re: Clutch won't bleed out
Had the spacers issue before, needed to space it so the piston didn't pop out of the end of the slave which made it impossible to bleed. It might be that the pin in the cross shaft has sheared and it has jammed a bit further round. The lever arm should ideally be vertical or very slightly pointing f...

Mk1 Brake caliper
Hopefully a quick question, are the pistons inside an early Mk1 calliper the same as in the wider late Mk1/Mk2 calliper? One of the fronts callipers is a little sticky so I was thinking it would be sensible to put new seals in (pretty sure the seals are the same) and stainless pistons in if they are...

Can anyone near Ipswich loan me a distributor?
Electronic ignition has decided to cease working and I foolishly left the points distributor in the garage at home 165 miles away.
Bit of an ask, but does anyone in the Ipswich area happen to have a distributor I could borrow/acquire so I can drive home on Monday?

Re: Mk1 Hazard warning wiring
The thought did occur to me I could use the facelift Mk2 hazard switch and two flasher relays and wire it in a similar manner to a Mk2. Unfortunately I don't have a spare Mk2 switch and both flasher relays and Mk2 hazard switches seem to be oddly expensive these days. Standard on/off and changeover ...

Re: Mk1 Hazard warning wiring
The simplest way i could think of doing it was with a modern flasher relay and a 2 pole switch to bypass the column switch and link both sides together. The problem is that you would need the key in the ignition to make the hazards work, or move the power to the relay across one fuse so the indicato...

Mk1 Hazard warning wiring
I've been giving this some thought about hazard warning lights and the cheapest and easiest way to do this. I've not needed hazard warning lights often, but being sat at the side of the A30 in the fog at 1 O'clock in the morning many years ago with only my sidelights as illumination was a bit scary....

Re: Wanted: Drivers (RHD) sill tread plate
If John W doesn't have one readily to hand, I have a vague feeling I have a sill tread plate or two in the loft. I'll have a look later in the week when I put the Christmas decorations away.

Re: Sump removal in car
Having dropped the sump off the other day on my car I dropped the steering cross member, undid the drag struts at the bushed end which meant I could get the steering cross member down just far enough to get the sump out. I didn't see turning it 90 degrees as a removal option, possibly because I had ...

Re: HELP! Where has it gone? A comedy.
Hi Bill, I'm actually surprised how clean the inside of the sump pan was - definitely shows she's had reasonably frequent oil changes. The outside unfortunately is a different matter!!! Will clean it all thoroughly then re-paint the outside to stop it rusting on the off chance I manage to seal the s...

Re: HELP! Where has it gone? A comedy.
And after much swearing and getting totally plastered in 54 years of oily goo I got the sump off and there in the middle is the blooming nut! (scratch to the left in the oily layer in the sump from the MIG torch liner).
Success!
