Re: Sump plug position
Hi Cliff, I believe it is a matter of access though I don't know. Anyway here are a couple of photos I took at a show this weekend. Tr5 sump.jpeg TR6 sump.jpeg They are a bit dark but both the TR5 and early TR6 sump pans are the same with the oil drain to the front end of the sump and in the centre,...

Sytec fuel pump Bosch
Hi All, I have a 2.5P1 Mk2 built Oct 1972. The previous owner had fitted a "Bosch" type fuel pump. (Actually a Sytec one). My issue was that the car was sometimes hard to start. I checked spark etc but all seemed okay. So I fitted an inline fuel pressure gauge. With this fitted it was easy to see wh...

Re: Sump plug position
Hi Charles, many thanks for your thoughts, this aligns with my recollection that the sump plug on the TR6 is front and centre. I believe the engine is more likely from a saloon. Back in the day I've cut the front plate down to mount saloon engines into GT6, Vitesse etc. but nobody bothers to change ...

Sump plug position
Hi All, is there any ready way to ID an Engine block other than the Engine number stamp. I am looking at one and the top of the block has been machined off! (Not sure why they would do that). I seem to remember someone telling me the sump plug position was different for the TR6 which is what I have ...
Re: Ring gear
Hi Alec, it makes sense on the chamfer facing the starter that kind of what I though.
I am struggling to see how the current ring gear ended up that worn though unless it was turning before it was in mesh.

Re: Ring gear for starter
Hi All, I've added some images for your reference. Ring gear
Hi All had to take the gearbox out of my Pi to investigate poor clutch clearance problem. Not unusual I believe. Anyway one of the side issues I’ve noted is that the flywheel ring gear is badly worn. Maybe as much as 30% of the width of the teeth worn away in 3 distinct areas. (I’ll take a photo and...

Re: Sump removal in car
Well, just to let you know. I ended up removing the front cross member as described by Mike and John above. I couldn't turn the sump 90 degrees with the downpipe attached. None the less the cross member was not too bad to "remove" as described by John, I also had to unbolt the rack from the cross me...

Sump removal in car
Hi All, I have a rather leaky sump gasket on my 2.5 Mk2 and wanted to change it.
Now I seem to recall "someone" telling me this is possible with the engine in the car....
If so how do I go about it?
Many thanks in advance Jake.

Re: PAS assistance level
Thanks Dave, some words of wisdom in there, obviously a man who has done a few of these jobs before. I didn't know about the hole in the rack to centralise it! When I got the car someone else had reassembled it with new rack etc. Tracking miles out, wheel at 5 to 12 etc. I got it tracked at a local ...
