Re: Power steering rack rebuild.

Sorry, no idea, but I would change the fan belt at the same time as it is behind the power steering belt!

Re: Aftermarket air filter

Would you need to put richer needles in with those filters?

Just curious as I am intending to rebuild a 2500 engine to go in my 2000, and have a pair of HS6s ready to be rebuilt......

Re: Why no love for autos?

Not sure that there is 'no love for autos' with everybody.

I had an auto 2000 estate when I was a 'yoof' and enjoyed driving it.

Perfect sense, thanks, the first sentence points me in the right direction!

Mine are flat and miss the screen on the right where it curves round.

Re: New Wipers Needed

I found that with 14" blades I was looking through unwiped area above the rubber, so used 15" last time expecting another 1/2" extra wiped area.

In practice due to offset on the blades it was more like 3/4" extra - just enough for a view in the rain!

Re: Purging the U.J.s...

What Clifford said, plus the important issue is whether the UJ is worn or not. If they are not worn then don't worry.

They should last years.

Re: Compression Testing - Hot or Cold?

I'll stick in a fairly inexperienced thought. Did you try it wet and dry (although as yours were roughly the same you may not need to)? Firstly take the pressures dry then add a drop of oil into the bores and try again. If the pressures increase (the oil should seal the bores) then there are issues ...

Re: Eyeball vent feeder hose

I even managed to reconnect the speedo drive (virtually) first time and it is working! Not a job I like as there is little play in the cable and requires a bit of wrist acrobatics.

(When I got the car is was not properly connected and slipping, underreading the speed.)
