Re: Starter problems.

Not too long shot. :D When i had the starter motor down the first time, i noticed that the ring gear had mowed quite a bit, so i took the gearbox and flywheel down and fixed it, i even welded it to avoid such things in the future, and the ring gear was ok. Which thicknes of shims will i need? I have...

Starter problems.

I´m restoring a MKII thats been standing still for many years, and i think that i understand why. There is a problem with the starter motor (pre-engaged). I had it down and took it to a specialist, as i saw that both the bendix gear and the solenoid was new, and he said it worked fine, but it does n...

Re: Wont start - what have i been missing?

Thanks Jonathan!
I shall try to measure a little tomorrow, maybe it´s possible to measure the stroke with something. The breather take off is on the middle of the valve cover.

Edit:At least the head seems to be 2000, it was about 84mm from block to valvecover, now i´m even more confused. :?

Re: Wont start - what have i been missing?

Perhaps it is worth mentioning that the CORRECT 2000 engine would be prefix MM COULD YOU PERHAPS HAVE MISREAD THE SECOND DIGIT? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk No, its the correct number. I thought this thread was as dead as my car, but you kept it alive. :) I´m waiting for the distributor, i su...

Re: Wont start - what have i been missing?

Preben, a mechanical pump is standard on carburettor cars even if your engine is a P.I. core unit. Alec But other cars that i worked with, which have fuel injection are not made for mechanical pumps, there is no hole to mount it and Another camshaft is a must, so i´m not quite sure that it really I...

Re: Wont start - what have i been missing?

Hmm! If the distributor isn't faulty I don't see why it should matter which spec of car it came from in terms of simply starting the car - bear in mind that a faulty big six will start on 4/5 cylinders! Once the car is running a road test will soon show whether the distributor is of the correct spe...

Re: Wont start - what have i been missing?

Yes it has carburators. The distributor is set up for a 2000 engine according to the seller.
But do PI engines really have mechanical fuel pump?

Re: Wont start - what have i been missing?

Hello Alec! The distributor i ordered is from a company called Best British Classics, it´s a 45D type. It´s pretty strange with the Engine number, the car has only had 4 owners, and was documented with lots of invoices and stuff. There was even an invoice or engine overhauling. I´m not the one that ...
