All sorted now, took sender unit apart and a good friend of mine who's good with electrics fixed it with a couple of bits of wire and solder and now everything works including light

Mk1 estate fuel sender unit
As the title says I'm after a fuel gauge sender unit for a mk1 estate. sorry should of said its a mk1, Done mk2 before without a problem
The knuckle is loose and isn`t holding it, It looks like the whole column need to move but the cowling and indicator are stopping it and can`t see how it comes apart

Bulkhead bush
I`m trying to change the bush in the bulkhead where the steering column goes,
i`ve undone the knuckle and removed the bolt and the clamp inside the car.
What else has to be removed so i can pull the column out enough to replace the bush

just reading this thread, Where do you get mintex pads from for the mk2`s, Nobody seems to give an answer to that question, I`m after a set but not found them listed for the 2000
