I lived in Faringdon from 1961 until 1979 and still go back occasionally. Now live near Didcot! I wish you luck finding the right car for you.

Re: Very hot alternator
Th rectifier pack looks like 3 square metal plates bolted together with one fixing though the middle (in fact there's 9 diodes in there, 6 wired as a 3 phase bridge and the other 3 wired much the same to power the regulator and field coil). The regulator is normally a square metal box about 2" squar...

First of all measure the voltage across the battery with the engine stopped and also with it running. It sounds like the alternator regulator is giving problems and producing a too high voltage which will eventually damage the battery. With the engine stopped the battery voltage should be somewhere ...

Re: Overdrive ID
There are differences in internal oil pressure dependent on 2000/2500TC/S/2.5PI all set by the relief valve inside the O/D. That would account for the differing part numbers. Another way to check is to compare the parts book looking for the 'square', 'triangle' or 'circle' which are used to denote w...

Being the forum admin I ought to know - but I don't! Your comment about time is interesting - I shall go and look at the settings, there may be something in there that needs addressing.

Re: Middle Sill?
The middle sill can be repaired by fabricating repair panels in bits. Be aware that the 'horizontal' part of it (which ends up being the bottom of the sill) is wider at the front than at the back. I've just finished the O/S sill on my Mk2 PI and ended up repairing the middle sill in sections, probab...
