Re: Early MK2 overdrive gear lever wanted

Hi John,

Did you get this sorted? If not, I'll have a look to see what I've got!

Cheers,
Mike.

Re: Flywheel spigot bushing

The bush is there to support the end of the primary motion shaft in the 'box. Any play there is bad, so if it is between the crank and bush or the bush and shaft is probably irrelevant, as it will be the bush that has worn and so it will need replacing. I like Bill's method of removing the bush and ...

Re: J type overdrive wiring

Although the 'J' type only draws 2A running current, the inrush current when you first engage the overdrive is much higher. I have had to repair the gearknob switch a few time with 'J' types but not with 'A' types due, I believe, to this higher inrush current damaging the switch contacts. I think ha...

Re: Carburettor questions

I know this is a bit late now, but I should have a complete manifold/carb set from an early 2000 if that helps.

just let me know if you're interested and I'll go and have a look in 'the shed'!

Re: Strombergs / SUs

Sorry for the delay Charles!

I'll have to go and look up what I ended up with. I know they came from Burlen. I can't check on the car as it's now with a new owner!

Cheers,
Mike.

Re: Tyre choice

Possibly the best bet might be Stag 14" steel rims. They have the correct offset and the original knave-plates should fit. If you can find the rims that is!

Mike.

Oh dear. I replied to the other instance of this question! Not that I said anything different to what's already been said here.

Re: Oil to use

20-50 is what was originally specified. Whether the Penrite 20-60 is OK is another matter! Personally, I use VR1 in both the PI and Stag.

Mike.

Re: Halogen conversion kits

As Alec says, adding relays to the big saloon headlamp system does make a big difference to the light output - by calculation and measurement up to 30%. Then you can fit different bulbs (such as Osram nightbreaker plus - but others are available!). These are the same electrical power rating but give...

Re: Low reading guages

An Avo would be the ideal instrument for measuring the voltage output. When you do, do check with the negative lead in various places, (speedo, voltage stabiliser, car body etc). All should read the same, but if they don't, that would point to the problem. Let's hope it warms up a bit. And dries out...
