Re: Fuel consumption
I had a LHD 2000 - bog standard that I drove carefully so max ~ 70mph - cruising long distances at about 60mph as I was in no position to rebuild the engine and it gave 32-35mpg consistently (didn't really change after fitting overdrive, I just drove a bit faster.

Re: Thermostat housing - with temp sensor port
Early 2000 Mk1 had the temp sender in the thermostat housing, Later mk1 it was blanked off and the sender in the water pump housing. Mk2 had the different thermo casting with no place to drill and tap.

Maybe you need a filler plug like a stag on the thermostat (weld a boss / thread on or use Ford Fiesta thermostat cover? )and a Stag remote overflow bottle?

Re: Diff info
Alan, I always thought those big tyres on 15 inch rims plus 3.45 diff was a bit optimistic for a manual stag - they love to REV - triumph weren't daft fitttinga 3.7 to the manual - maybe the auto could have coped with a 3.45 although it really needed a 4 speed auto!
